Class Suspended in Philippines on July 30 due to Heavy Rain

On July 30, classes in some schools from Kinder to Universities were susoended as announced by DepEd.

The Department of Education (DepEd) and local officials announced class suspensions Monday in most parts of Metro Manila and some nearby areas due to heavy rains spawned by tropical storm Gener and the southwest monsoon.

According to PAGASA, at 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm"GENER" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 330 km East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan (19.4°N, 124.9°E). Maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. Forecast to move North Northwest at 11 kph.

Memorandum Circular No. 32, s. 2012

Upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and in view of the continuing inclement weather brought about by storm “Gener,” work in government offices and classes in college level in the National Capital Region are hereby suspended today, 30 July 2012 from 2:30 p.m. onwards
However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital public services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.
This Circular shall take effect immediately.
