Government:

  • Baguio City: suspension of work in government offices (except agencies handling services during calamities)
  • POEA La Union and Baguio


Local Government Units:
  • Balayan and Sta. Teresita, Batangas: all levels
  • Benguet: all levels, public and private
  • San Fernando, La Union: all levels, public and private

Typhoon Helen PAGASA Update on August 15-Wednesday

Here's Bagyong Helen PAGASA Update on August 15, 2012-Wednesday.

As of 5:00 a.m. today, PAGASA said the center of Tropical Storm Helen was spotted at 60 kilometers South Southeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 17 kph.

Public storm warning signal number 2 (61-100 kph winds) was raised over Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Northern Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Abra, and Batanes Group of Islands, while signal number 1 (45-60 kph winds) is up in Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, La Union and the rest of Aurora.


Moderate to heavy rains (7.5 to 12.0 mm/hr) is expected over Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite at early morning today and likewise at mid-morning over Metro Manila. Intermittent light to moderate rains (2.5 - 7.5 mm/hr) is expected over Central Luzon and the rest of Southern Luzon.

Typhoon Helen Update-August 14- Areas with Storm Warning Signals

Here's Typhoon Helen Update-August 14, 2012- Areas with Storm Warning Signals. According to the latest PAGASA Weather Bulletin, at 1:00 p.m. today, 14 August 2012, the center of Tropical Storm "HELEN" was located based on satellite and surface data at 260 km East Southeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan(17.0°N, 124.4°E).

Public storm warning signal number two has been raised over the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte and Abra as well as the Batanes, Babuyan and Calayan groups of islands.

The provinces of Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Mt. Province, La Union and Ilocos Sur are meanwhile under public storm warning signal number one.

August 10- Class Suspended in Quezon City and Universities in Manila

Classes on Quezon City are all suspended on August 10 according to Quezon City MAyor Herbert Bautista. While Inquirer tweeted that De LaSalle University (DLSU) classes, work in some campuses to resume Monday.

GMA News tweeted that QUEZON CITY: Mayor Herbert Bautista announces cancellation of classes in ALL LEVELS until FRIDAY, AUG 10.


  • Earlier. Manila declares state of calamity. About 60 percent of city still flooded. 
  • MARIKINA: Classes suspended in all levels until Friday, August 10 -- Paul Sison, PIO, Marikina City.
  • PARAƑAQUE: No classes in all levels, private and public schools, as declared by Mayor Jun Bernabe.

August 1- Bagyong Gener Latest Update- Classes Suspended

August 1- Bagyong Gener Latest Update! PAGASA said during it's 11:00am weather bulletin that the center of Typhoon"GENER" was located based on satellite and surface data at 290 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes (22.9°N, 123.6°E).

Heavy rain and strong winds brought by the southwest monsoon early Wednesday prompted the suspension of classes in more areas in Metro Manila.



Typhoon "GENER" is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains and moderate to strong winds over Luzon and Western Visayas.

Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under Public Storm Warning Signal #2 are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Estimated rainfall amount is from heavy - torrential (10 - 35 mm per hour) within the 700 km diameter of the Typhoon.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Seaboard of Luzon and Visayas due to the combined effect of Typhoon "Gener" and the Southwest Monsoon.

Meanwhile, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 360 km West Northwest of Basco, Batanes (21.0°N, 118.1°E).

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today.

Yellow Warning: 7.5-15mm (heavy) rain observed in 1 hour and expected to continue in the next 2 hours. Flooding is possible. Response: Monitor the weather condition
